“I wanna just generally broaden my horizons.”

Do you ever get writer’s block?
(Sheepish) Yeah.
How do you deal with it?
I tend to just get very frustrated. Now I approach it by stepping away for a while. But sometimes I worry that I use writer’s block as an excuse to be lazy. Like I said before, making computer music is essentially about trial and error, working with ideas until you come up with something you like. I suppose you need to have that initial spark of inspiration to sit down and work at something in the first place. If you don't have that, you just need to wait for it, go watch a film or something and come back.
The one truly objective moment you have with your own tunes is when you’ve got the main loop going and you go away and do something until you’ve forgotten it. When you come back and listen to it for the first time - that’s the true test.
Do you have any particular long term ambitions?
I wanna just generally broaden my horizons. I definitely want to do music for films, work with other people more and get the studio looking more sophisticated. It’s better to buy new equipment only when it’s necessary, when you’re run out of options with what you’ve got.
I got an email the other day, I think it must’ve been bullshit because I’ve not heard back from them. It was a band saying they’d been given a deal with a major American label and they’d really like to work with Lukid. It was from this really mysterious email address and they didn’t get back to me. I’d definitely like some major label money.
So if the opportunity came up to work with a famous vocalist, you’d do it?
I reckon I’d do it, but maybe not under the name Lukid.
So if Britney calls tomorrow?
I’d do it.
What about Dannii Minogue?
I’d have to think twice about Dannii Minogue.
Peter Andre?
I’d draw the line (laughs). There are lines to be drawn. But Beyonce…….
You heard it here first.
